As an avid follower of Queensland politics I read my local Townsville Bulletin’s sporting section yesterday, a story under the headline Heart steal win from Palmer’s youngsters a story concerning Clive Palmers Gold Coast United soccer team, where the big man apparently dropped many players for Friday nights game and appointed 17 year old Mitch Cooper as his captain for the night.
It struck me that he may do likewise with his LNP should they win the Queensland Election but lose their leader (captain) in the process, after all he would not allow the re-appointment of Lawrence Springborg as captain and approved of a political novice to replace Mr. Springborg, in the form of Campbell Newman.
Queensland politics can throw up some unusual results from time to time; I refer to the gerrymander under Sir Joh, and the 11 seat triumph of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation who captured the 11 seats at one Queensland election. Who really knows until the day after the election? I would not be surprised at all to see Katter’s Australian Party emulate the One Nation feat. I also would not at all be surprised to see The Greens break through for their maiden elected seat in the Queensland parliament.
Queenslander’s traditionally have not welcomed political control being had by the billionaires, so this may well be the most colourful election in some time.
