Letter to the Editor
Whyalla hasn’t been wiped off the map, but the time has arrived for all Australians to be responsible with the use of power. Those little things that everyone should already do such as turn the lights off when leaving an empty room and have the parental responsibility to teach children from the time they are toddlers to do likewise. It’s only common sense, why would you leave a light burning for Mr. Nobody? It doesn’t make sense does it?
This should not be seen as some great sacrifice, rather as just doing the right thing. Climate Change is potentially devastating for our grand children’s future, why then would we not want to be responsible with our use of energy on their behalf? Australians should be proud that we have as a nation lessened our dependence on energy in a number of ways such as being more responsible over the past two decades despite some stragglers, and with the installation of solar water heaters and power panels.
In the future carbon pollution will play a part in world trade and those countries not accepting their responsibility to use energy properly will see punishments handed out via international trade agreements, Australia is a trading nation and we can do well from putting a price on carbon pollution, it won’t hurt the overwhelming majority of us so let’s get in and make a difference.
