Letter to the Editor
One wonders why the federal Labor government continues to pour federal money into North Queensland, especially in health. In Townsville alone $400 million has gone to the Townsville hospital in upgrades, supplying new services in the treatment of cancer, operating theatres and the like since 2007. The Townsville Tertiary Hospital handles patients from all over North Queensland who have serious illnesses.
The Queensland government has replied by sacking the very staff needed to actually run the services in the form of doctors and nurses. We have heard no outcry from either our State or Federal representatives; perhaps they can afford private treatment in southern hospitals?
The federal government is returning in kind the revenue it receives from the north but this is being undone by the Newman LNP government who should be complimenting the federal effort by providing infrastructure themselves.
This should not be a political seesaw we have the need in North Queensland, most of our State and Federal representatives are in fact LNP but yet they refuse to match the federal Labor government’s efforts particularly in health.
We know that the previous State Labor government did very little for North Queensland also but surely to goodness when we have a federal Labor government trying so hard to make our lives a little easier, surely it is not asking too much for this Brisbane centric LNP State government to put their collective shoulders to the wheel and contribute to the North’s prosperity.
