Letter to the Editor
After seeing that a compilation of recent opinion polls giving the ALP an 8 seat gain in the coming federal election in Queensland, as a backlash against the austerity policies of the Newman LNP Queensland government I thought back to the election campaign when Mr. Newman said that public servants had nothing to fear from him and that he and his party would actually lower of cost of living for us.
Forward two years, in the first year of the LNP government the LNP sacked 14,000 plus public servants and has consistently sacked more delivering much less services from the public service, meaning those of us on low incomes have had to pay privately for services that we can’t afford. Then in the second year the LNP government increased the electricity charges by a whopping 22.6% and in addition gave themselves a 41% pay increase so that a backbench State MP is on $194,000 per annum.
No wonder Queenslanders have had enough of the LNP, since they have been in government in Queensland, they have stripped services to the bone, as the federal Opposition Leader Abbott said he would also do. We can’t chance an Abbott government, as any further reduction in services would push some families to the wall. Enough is enough.
